Profile
Hello, I'm Mark Welby, the Director and principal consultant at Mark Welby Consulting Arborists. I've been working with trees for over 25 years and am a Registered Consultant and Fellow of the Arboricultural Association. You can learn more about Registered Consultants on their website (here).
I've achieved various practical and pruning qualifications, including the Royal Forestry Society's Professional Diploma in Arboriculture and a LANTRA Professional Tree Inspector certification. Additionally, I'm an assessor on the Registered Consultant scheme for the Arboricultural Association and a Professional Member of the Consulting Arborist Society.
In order to stay current with the constantly changing field of arboriculture, I make it a point to attend frequent seminars and events, and I ensure that I meet all necessary CPD requirements.
I began my training in 1995 at Merrist Wood College in Guildford. There, I learned the fundamentals of rope and harness climbing, tree biology, soil science, and plant health care. Following my time at Merrist Wood, I worked at Hillier's tree propagation unit in Liss. Later, I worked for a company focused on using tree-spades to move trees, as well as performing tree surgery and extensive tree planting throughout southern England.
In 2003, I transitioned to become a tree inspector for LB Hounslow, surveying countless street trees from Bedfont and Feltham to Chiswick. During this time, I continued my studies and eventually became a tree officer at Hounslow. Eventually, I left the authority for a private consultancy practice that encompassed trees, landscape, ecology, and archaeology. After helping to grow that business for twelve years, my wife Samantha and I now operate our small practice from our home in Petersfield.
